This is to be a 21st century garden which respects its age but is not a slave to it.  The garden will reflect the owners love for the tradition of the English ‘Arts & Crafts’ country garden; mellow stone, exuberant planting, often contained within formal clipped box and yew, paths and walls, traditional materials and growing techniques, rosy bowers, shady pergolas and trained fruit

A palette of colours which, sometimes restrained and occasionally exuberant, will change in vibrancy to reflect the season and change the language of the garden. Colour will be exploited and controlled to create mood, to help shape and define garden spaces. But colour alone is not sufficient in a garden to create harmonious or cohesive space. Form and texture, volume and height must be allowed to play their part. Evergreens and large leaved plants, the ‘supporting cast’, are the backbone and the backdrop of any garden.

Their love of the Mediterranean ‘cour’ or patio inspired us to provide inviting spaces throughout the site. Spaces with different characters for different seasons, times of day and according to temperatures. We will clothe house walls with climbing plants, some flowering, some scented, others for marking the passing seasons.

This garden is to be lived in, eaten in and partied in. Our aim was to combine elegance, tradition, playful indulgence and beauty while never forgetting the practical!
